So what about us? Did we get the short end of the stick? Did you? Are you just filler in the world?
Next, is living a story just about self-interest and wanting fame and doing something extraordinary? NO!! It's merely about living an intentional life of purpose and meaning and service and stepping outside of the current of society where it's so easy to just follow along.
This was sent to me today by Free Agent Academy member and Coffee Scholar, Dr. David Powers:
"It is on the regular path that the wild beast attacks." -African proverb
Now, there is a fairly recent book by one of my favorite authors, Donald Miller, titled "A Million Miles in a Thousand Years." If you haven't read it...go get it now. If you HAVE read it, and didn't change your life in response to it...read it again.
But the point is him viewing his life and realizing how lame of a story it was. And why it mattered to live a great story. Read the book, he says it better than I can. I'm just here once you believe it...to join you and help.
If you buy in to your responsibility to live a good (or even great?!) story, where do you start? You need help discovering...to begin with. Seek wisdom and counsel. We can't see ourselves fully...alone.
In yesterday's Free Agent Underground show, I quizzed Justin Lukasavige on some big decisions he's making in his life right now. Justin is in his early 30s, married with young kids, self-employed (CoachRadio.TV) and looking at life from a standpoint of what his story should be.
He's contemplating a cross country move, big decisions...and he shares it with us as we discuss this concept of living a good story. Here are a few quotes from him during the show:
"Many people have suggested God has a plan for our lives and we can't choose our own story. I think God has given us free will to do as we please, whether it's right or wrong."
"If we can't change our story, alcoholics and drug addicts ought to give up and stop going to rehab."
"It's our responsibility to determine what God created us for, and then do it."
Listen. You'll get inspired or decide you've had it with our blather.
