The lemmings are gathered together. Clouds are assembled overhead. A crack of lightening. One turns away and starts a panicked run…all the others follow en-masse. A cliff looms ahead as the rain pelts down, distorting the view. They near the cliff, poised for imminent ruin.
The first lemming falls over, then five, then 15.
Suddenly one skids to a stop, right at the edge and exclaims…"What the X#@!"

This lemming is part of the underground.
Last week I did a soft launch of our new Free Agent Underground branding that you can see above. First, big thanks to Free Agent Academy member Nathan Fisher of Ideas Ablaze who created the logos. Just a joy to work with, and…a friend.
But why the 'underground' name? Well, our Academy is for those who are taking action. Discovering their idea, building it, launching it and growing into a sustainable and flourishing business.
As we grow and the word gets out…I'm now aimed at spreading the message of 'free agency' in a massive way. Self-employment is the front door, but the goal is a lifestyle. One where work…is wrapped around life. Our society is based on the opposite…and it leads to a cliff. The underground is full of those living a drastically different reality.
The next 60 days will see me sitting in front of some cameras, microphones and websites that reach a lot of people. Hundreds of thousands. Just an amazing fruition for this message and organization that was officially launched in June of 2009.
The 'underground' is contrary to this big world and society going through the motions of w-o-r-k. Every day…making the commute, sitting in gridlock, clocking in, workin' for the man, enduring meetings, meaningless water cooler chit chat, toiling away in the cubicle, missing out on kids lives, making it to the end of the day or the weekend or the 2-week vacation, and on and on.
You know. It's the norm in our society. A norm that's only existed a bit over 100 years, but all we know today.
THEN…there is a legion of people unplugged from that machine. People who are their own boss. People who work at something they are good at and passionate about. Who can 100% relate their efforts to the end recipient. People who work plenty, but on their own schedule deciding what priorities should reign for their unique and worthy lives. People who skidded to a stop at the cliffs edge and questioned the logic and 'reality.'
People who…wrap their work around their life. I'll talk more about WHO they are (and why they aren't all that special) in tomorrow's post.
This is the 'underground.' Outside of the norm. Contrary to status quo. Not a super brilliant people. Just some fellow lemmings that before reaching the cliff's edge, sensed something wrong and said, "Hey…wait a minute! What are we doing?" And jumped out of the pack.
If you ARE a free agent, we salute you and want to share your story. If you have sensed the pending cliff and want something better…we're here for you.

Kevin, I have a picture somewhere of sheep doing the same thing. There is one "in the midst" of all the others headed in the other direction. Love it. I love the photo, sitting under the tree with mountains behind. It is all good, very good! Thanks again, Jim

I'm trying to teach my little boys to use the word "play" instead of "work". Work is a bad thing but if I can make a living playing every day, then life can be so sweet.
